Night of Romance to Benefit Community

Romance Raffle

It’s only a little more than a week until the start of February. And what does that mean? (Guys, you’d better get this one right!) Valentine’s Day, of course.

This year, the night of Feb. 14 will take on even more importance (as though it wasn’t important enough already), because it’s the date of the second annual Romance Raffle.

The Romance Raffle is a cooperative fundraising effort of the Marshfield Rotary Club and the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, which combines a gourmet dinner and dancing (guaranteed a larger part in this year’s program), live and silent auctions and a reverse raffle with a grand prize of $5,000. The raffle will also include 19 cash consolation prizes.

Dinner will be catered by La Galette Berrichone French Cafe, and music will be provided by Just One More Song.

Proceeds from last year’s inaugural Romance Raffle exceded $40,000, and were split between the two sponsoring organizations.

The Marshfield Area Community Foundation used its portion of the proceeds to bolster its Capacity to Share Fund, which is used to provide grants for unscheduled, acute needs.

“The Capacity to Share Fund helps out in emergency situations without hurting our regular grant-making process,” said foundation board member Rob Foster.

The Marshfield Rotary Club uses about half of its portion of the proceeds to maintain and enhance Rotary Park, including the addition or replacement of trees, addition of mulch and other improvements. The remaining funds are used to fund a long list of club benevolencies and activities, including the Don’t Meth With Us drug education program, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and the annual community Easter egg hunt.

“The Romance Raffle is a great example of two great organizations working together,” said Foster. “It’s getting together to benefit the city and area in a collaborative way.”

Tickets to the Romance Raffle are $140 per couple, and must be purchased by Feb. 9. Tickets may be purchased at the following locations:

• Century Realty — 1441 Spur Drive

• DD Hamilton Title Co. — 301 W. Washington St.

• RTR Attorneys — 107 E. Jefferson St.

• Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield — 1292 Banning St.
